BonFire Data Compression
All BonFire systems
contain modified LZ4 compression, which can be activated on
demand. When activated, compression significantly
reduces the amount of space overwritten with new data.
This conversely increases the amount of free space on the
system, thus expanding the useful life of the product.

By selecting the
compression surchage option, you can increase the
addressable space on the system without being limited
by the physical space and free-space settings of the system.
The only requirements are
that you have enough RAM to address the additional logical
references, and that your data is compressed sufficienty so
that you do not run out of free space.
Because most data has some
compresability, and metadata typically compresses 85% to
90%, the ability to compress can lead to significant unit
cost reductions. Accordingly, customers frequently see
20% to 60% increases in useful space. On the other
hand, the ability to run yourself out of disk-space, or to
reduce the useful life of SSDs excessively, means that you
must regularly monitor your system.
